Madagascar - One unique place on the earth to visit

Madagascar, or 'Republic of Madagascar' is a huge island country located on the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. The main island, Madagascar, is the fourth largest island in the world. Five percent of the world's plant and some unknown animal species are exist here, 80 percent of these are found only in Madagascar. It's busiest capital, Antananarivo is a hillside complex of royal palaces and avenue of the Baobabs, a dirt road surrounded by oldest trees of the centuries, which are only found in Madagascar.

The fourth largest island in the world, Madagascar is based on approximately 587,000 2 km area with its three large island Borneo, Greenland and New Guinea.

Madagascar is a island of most unique plant and animal species, which are only seen in the forest of Madagascar.

There are only two seasons, a hot rainy season starts in November and last until April and a dry cooler season starts in May and last until October.

Antananarivo is the capital city and also the most populated city of this island with the population of around 21,290,000.

Madagascar has rich wildlife, but in spite of this it one of the poorest countries in Africa. Because, the people of this region face lots of problems such as poor educational system, poor health care, malnutrition and many economic problems.

In Madagascar, 52% population of this country maintain their indigenous religious beliefs, other 41% population are Christian and 7% are Islamic.

The two official languages of Madagascar is French and Malagasy. From 1895 to 1957 Madagascar Island was under the French rule.

Something about two thousand years ago, when humans arrived on this island, it has lost more than 80% of its original forest.

The president of Madagascar Hery Rajaonarimampianina, has a most longest surname than any other president in the world.

Ninety per cent of the country's population lives below the International poverty line, which live on less than two dollars a day.

In the forest of Madagascar you can still experience more than 100 species and sub-species of lemurs.

Some major species of vanilla are found in Madagascar and total 80 per cent of the world’s vanilla comes from this island.

The national sport of Madagascar is rugby and it stands at 35th place in the world rankings for this.
