Goa is the India's smallest state in western India with coastlines stretching along the Arabian Sea and it is the 4th smallest state by population. Goa is also known for its beautiful white sand beaches, which ranging from popular stretches at Baga and Palolem. Goa is located in West side of India on the coastal belt known as Konkan., it is surrounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Goa is India's richest state with a high GDP per capita two and a half times of the whole country. It was ranked the best placed state for its infrastructure and ranked on top for the best quality of life in India.
        Panaji is the capital city of Goa, and Vasco da Gama is the largest city in Goa. Margao is the historic city in Goa still exhibits the cultural influence of the Portuguese. Goa is a 110 kilometers long and 60 km wide, it comes between the Sahyadri hill range of the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea on the west coast of India. The magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendours of its temples, churches and old houses have made Goa a favorite tourist destination for travelers around the world. Goa is not only known for just beaches and sea. But, it has a unique history, rich culture and some of the prettiest natural scenery that India has to offer. Panaji (also called as Panjim) is the capital city of Goa located on the banks of the Mandovi river and Vasco, Ponda, Vasco, Mapusa and Margao are the other important towns in Goa. Goa has an international/national airport located at Dabolim near Vasco. Goa's bus network also plays an important role in getting locals public transport and visitors alike in and around Goa.

South Goa district is divided into 3 sub-divisions – Margao, Mormugao (Vasco), and Quepem. The headquarters of South Goa district is Margao which is the historic city in goa.
