Cashew tree


In konkan area cashew trees are very important trees for their people it used for making cashew nuts and also used in food making sometimes.
     The cashew tree is a tropical evergreen tree which produces the cashew seed and the cashew apple. Cashew's apple is very testy and juicy it also used for making juice and wine. The seeds of cashews is served as a snack or used in recipes. India and Nigeria are the major producers of cashew. They are a popular snack and food source, Cashew nuts are commonly used in Indian cuisine (e.g. Korma and Kaju(cashew) Barfi).
     Cashew nuts are mostly produced in tropical countries because the tree is very frost sensitive. In many countries, particularly in South America, the cashew apple is used to flavor drinks for both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. In Brazil, it is a popular fruit flavor for the national drink.
     Cashew apples are plentiful in India as a result of producing 610,000 tons of nuts annually and 60 varieties of cashews grow across some states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra (and Goa), Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. In Goa, the cashew apple is mashed and the juice extracted and it kept for fermentation for a few days. Fermented juice then undergoes a double distillation process. The resulting beverage is called Fenny.
     Cashew nuts are more popular than cashew apples in many parts of the world. Cashew nuts are actually the kidney-shaped seeds that adhere to the bottom of the cashew apple. They have lower fat content than any other nuts. Everyone can eat cashew nuts except people who are allergic to nuts. Also You Can get a wide variety of cashew nuts coated with different masalas, herbed, honeyed, salted, etc. Cashew nuts are absolutely delicious and difficult to stop eating after just a few, but remember control is the key to good health. Eating between 4 - 8 pieces is enough for a day. They are full of anti-oxidants, minerals and vitamins which are required for the normal functioning of the body and calcium is also important for bone health which is the main content in cashew nuts.
      The trees of cashews are very attractive trees with large leaves and pretty, pink flowers. Also inside of that shell is a very nasty, caustic liquid that causes severe burns, so be careful when handling it. When you can get hold of fresh cashew seed. The sooner you plant it, the better. Be careful when separate the nut from the shell without getting the stuff on your skin, or into your eyes.
      Many parts of this plant are used in the traditional medicine, many people grind the seeds into a poultice for treating snakebites or apply nut oil to cracked heels. Their shells are poisonous because they are surrounded by a double shell which contain urushiol, a resin that can produce rashes and is toxic to ingest. Cashews must go through a roasting or steaming process to remove the substance for safe eating. Today Vietnam is the world’s largest cashew nut producer closely followed by India. Cashews belong to the same family as mango and pistachio nut.
